Our History

1975

Founded in 1975 by William “Dwain” Edwards, River City Construction has grown from a local Washington, NC operation into a trusted provider of safe, reliable, innovative electric utility infrastructure and power line services across the Eastern U.S.

1975-1980

River City gains contracts with Tideland EMC and Virginia Power Electric Company (VEPCO), now known as Dominion Energy.

1988

Branched out into the Maryland and Washington D.C. area.

1989

River City Construction is formally Incorporated & Cynthia M. Edwards is named Vice President.

1990

Bonner Bridge Project: In October of 1990, during a passing storm, a dredge collided with the Bonner Bridge on the outer banks of North Carolina, causing severe damage to several of the spanning bridge portions, and closing the bridge for approximately 6 weeks. River City crews repaired the lines that ran along the bridge to restore power to Cape Hatteras and the outer banks.

2016

William “Dwain” Edwards Passes Away.

Cynthia M. Edwards assumes role of President and Walter A. Manning III assumes role of Executive Vice President.

2017

William “Dwain” Edwards is inducted into the International Lineman Museum’s Hall of Fame.

2017

River City Construction partners with the DoW Skillbridge program in an effort to connect transitioning Service members to occupational training.

2021

New River City Corporate Office.

River City Construction is certified as a Women’s Business Enterprise and a Woman Owned Small Business by the WBENC.

2022

Gain new contract with Duke Energy.

2025
