Safety & Training
Bringing Out the Best in Our People
At River City Construction, safety is not just a priority; it is the cornerstone of our organization. We strive to maintain an incident-free company through continuous training and education, implementing and updating industry best practices, and fostering an organization-wide safety culture. Founded in 1975 by William “Dwain” Edwards, River City Construction was built on a simple principle: safety and efficiency go hand in hand. A culture of respect and a strong work ethic remain at the core of our company as we continually strengthen safety practices across the office, field, and customers’ homes.
Key Factors
Ensuring Our People are Surrounded by Safety
Comprehensive Training & Qualification Standards
All new employees are required to complete mandatory safety training and certification before entering the field. The Line Worker Apprenticeship Training Program is available as an optional development pathway for eligible employees. Safety qualifications are mandatory for all service types, ensuring each employee is properly trained for the specific work they perform. Ongoing education is reinforced through required attendance at regular safety meetings, emergency planning and response training, and clearly defined field work planning and office safety protocols that support safe operations across all environments.
Human Organizational Performance
We leverage the principles of HOP to predict error-likely situations, implement risk mitigation processes, and drive high performance across the company.
Proactive Jobsite Safety Practices
Safety is embedded into daily operations through structured job briefings conducted before any work begins. These briefings address potential hazards, work procedures, special precautions, energy source controls, and required personal protective equipment (PPE). Each crew is subject to routine jobsite and protective equipment safety audits to ensure compliance and continuous improvement. For particularly hazardous work, designated Safety Watchers are assigned with no additional duties and are required to remain on site until properly relieved.
Strong Safety Culture & Accountability
The organization maintains a safe workplace culture that prioritizes the well-being of both employees and the public. This commitment is supported by a strict Drug-Free Workplace Policy and shared accountability at every level of the workforce. By combining clear expectations, vigilant oversight, and a culture that encourages looking out for one another, safety becomes a core value rather than just a requirement.
